Sending Large Files

Heyo,

Trying to send a large folder of music (just under 3Gbs worth).

I am looking for a free, easy and hopefully fast way to send my files to someone (or host them, ready for sending).

I tried uploading the single folder to a file hosting site - it took so long I gave up as I predicted it wouldn't be done before tomorrow. I have split the folder into 3 sub-folders (500mb - 1.5Gb)and have started re-uploading them and it is a tad faster but still seems slowish.

Is there anything else I could try or should I just bear with it? This is also going to help with future projects.

It's your upload speed which matters mostly.

I came across this while looking on google:
- Sendtoperson.com ; It allows you to send 2 gigs at a time but what you can do is to split the files so that it should be less than 2 gigs using a file split utility, and then the service lets you send the file securely over the net.
- FTP: FTP is a little hard to setup. but it will do the job. http://www.filetransferplanet.com/ [...] ser-guide/
- Binfer: Binfer is an alternative to FTP, email attachments and web site uploads. It transfers files directly from one computer to another [private P2P]. http://www.binfer.com
- Pando: Pando can do P2P transfers but you have to configure your firewall ports, etc. http;//pando.com
- http://www.1fichier.com Hosts files up to 10GB
upload by web & FTP (with resume)
- http://www.justattach.com (Need to install it though)

I haven't tried them, but according to the guys on the internet, they're reliable and easy to use.

Bingo. Not sure if you attend a university or not, but if you do, use it to your advantage. Most of 'em have a ridiculous high wifi connection. Could download/upload files in a matter of minutes. I use this myself and save myself hours of time and headaches lol. Not sure any particular file host will do you any good.

Pretty much what Fuji said, its based on your upload speed so doesn't matter which one you use. You can use speedtest.net to see what your upload speed is then you will get an idea on how long it will take for you to upload the files.

Because the upload's gonna be slow, whichever way you do it, at least with dropbox you can let it upload in the background, so you can do other stuff. If you configure it, you can get dropbox to use as much bandwidth as it needs to upload, rather than limiting it.

Only problem though is that it's 2-2.5GB, so you'll need to expand it.
