Excuse me, but what? The only sense in your post concerns revving a cold engine.

Doing a top speed runs on an old car with lots of mileage, something will probably break.

At the moment I have a VW Polo 1.9SDi economyrocket, clocking in at 221.000km's with mindblowing 64bhp and a top speed of 140km/h. I have on numerous occasions tried to force that piece of shit over it's rated top speed and succeded quite a few times. My record atm is 175km/h. If I apply your logic, the car has blown up by now, which it strangely hasn't. No faults to report yet. It's still ugly and slow though.

I fail to see how you've reached this conclusion in the first place. One thing is driving fast. It's completely different to wind everything an old junker has out of it day after day. I, for example, have only had 2nd hand cars and none of these have sustained any damage from driving fast with them. Nor has anyone I know experienced it either. If you continuously haul ass down a winding road in an old car, suspension parts will give in eventually, but speeding down a highway? No.

Same thing for revving an engine while parked. How is it different than cycling through gears while driving? And you do definately drive a cold engine. Other than raping it while it's cold, letting it warm up by idle is probably one of the worst things you can do, as motor oils consistency is thicker when cold and theres very low oil pressure during idle.
It might look like I'm having a go at you, but I simply can't stand it when people advise others what to do or not to do, when they clearly have no idea what they're talking about.
