I have tried this on my laptop works pretty good.

I have been using this one for over 3 months now, works great.
My laptop is connected with a LAN cable, and I use my WiFi to share the network
Only two issues:
1. Sometimes I've to manually activate it
2. After a while minimized and you click to pop up on your screen again, it takes a while.

But everything else is great, you can set a password on your network, set a name, see how much data has been sent/recieved and client info.

Its nice working with hotspot but dunno how far away it will work

You can do with with the Intel Wifi Technology software that comes preinstalled if you have an Intel wireless card.

Connectify destroyed my laptop internet drivers. I had to install my wifi and LAN drivers again (Of course I had to search them, took me 6 hours after trying multiple drivers).
I won't try connectify again.
