Freedom of speech event - Terrorist attack in Denmark
Yet another terror attack, now in Copenhagen, Denmark. Happened 2 hours ago.
From danish news: A gunman turned up at a cafe in central Copenhagen, where a debate about freedom of speech were held, and started firing about 30 shots into the building where a Swedish artist who have drawn the prophet and the French ambassador were present. 3 police officers were shot but survived and one civilian apparently died in the attack. After the attack, it appears that the gunman ran away from the building, then stopped a car and forced an innocent woman out of it, to then steal it and escape. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnew...-live.html This is awfully similar to the Charlie Hebdo incident and i did fear, after that, such psychopaths would do something like that here as well. |

The knobbers just don't learn. I am happy despite the events that Barack Obama insists upon the authorisation to military action against the terrorists from the Congress.
Edit: I was referring to the terrorists with the term. |

RE: Freedom of speech event - Terrorist attack in Denmark
Doesn't Denmark have some of the world's strictest firearms laws? Did he not throw up any red flags with his purchases? Especially since Denmark tracks every firearm purchase, ammo purchase, and performs a full background check for any firearm purchase and then some. Even though it was illegal for him to carry and transport the firearm he still did it. Bad guys don't follow laws. But that's not the concern of the media.
http://www.gunpolicy.org/firearms/region/denmark In the U.S. if there is any sort of rally, no matter how crazy or who it is against, the police are there and around to not only protect the people around the protest but to protect the protesters from incidents like this. Even the Michael Brown protests against police were escorted and followed by the police because it was their duty. Just my 0.02 but any time someone dies it is sad and you never want to see it happen to someone "innocent." (I don't know who or what the protest was exactly about Free Speech is pretty broad) Wish a full recovery to the wounded and there families and rest in piece to those who have passed. And now comes the attacking me portion of the responses enjoy lol. |

RE: Freedom of speech event - Terrorist attack in Denmark
Well they say it's terror against freedom of speech. It's probably a Europe thing after the attack in France in January.
About the firearms, yes he haven't bought the weapon anywhere in Denmark. He either got it illegally or in another country and brought it in. Also, the police were guarding the place prior to the attack. They prevented it from being way worse than it was. |

Sad day. I just hope people are not giving in to such threats and keep exercising their freedom of speech, otherwise we won't have it for long.

Yeah I removed that part of my post as I read more and I don't want to offend the forum members from the country who may know or been at this event. Maybe it was an extremist opposing who knows. I'll keep those other thoughts to myself. How did he get the firearm into the country. This just baffles my mind. I don't want to turn this into some firearms debate. I'm just trying to understand with all these laws and how strict this country is on guns this still happened. It's like illegal narcotics I suppose. I have no affiliation with those but some people will go to great lengths to bring them in and across the borders. Two of my friends were stopped at the Canadian border crossing coming back to the US because of the length of their visit and their age. The border patrol wanted to make sure it wasn't some drug smuggling operation, but I digress lol. It will be interesting to see how this event turns out not only from international views but within the Freedom of Speech in Denmark. |

RE: Freedom of speech event - Terrorist attack in Denmark
The thing is you don't always get stopped at the danish borders. Most of the time you're able to drive straight through without stopping, so it is pretty easy to come here from Germany or Sweden by car. I can tell you that many danish residents are raging these days against the fact that our borders are so easy to get through.
In other news, there's been another shooting in the Copenhagen city centre less than 2 hours ago. One reported shot in the head and two police officers injured. Not yet confirmed whether it is related to the earlier attack, but it would appear this is not over yet. http://edition.cnn.com/2015/02/14/europe...index.html |

I hope the police hunt him down, either shoot him on the spot or lock him up for life. These terrorists don't deserve any sympathy or freedom.

RE: Freedom of speech event - Terrorist attack in Denmark
Blade: The EU doesn't utilize border controls for many (26?) of it's member countries, which makes it easy for these *Removed* to smuggle firearms. It's also a nightmare because of all the illegal immigrants.
As a reply to your 2nd concern, police that was present to secure the event, opened fire when the attackers tried to gain access to the building and forced them to retreat. Had the gunmen gained access, there would have been a lot more casualties. There's also been a 2nd shooting in Copenhagen tonight, but the events haven't officially been linked. |

Since our gun laws are stricter it is more expensive and difficult to get a gun for illegal activities. It just depends how much you are willing to pay. Criminals have to balance their budget aswell. |

RE: Freedom of speech event - Terrorist attack in Denmark
The suspected gunman was shot and killed by police at a 3rd shooting were only the gunman himself were hurt, luckily. His identity is now known and The Danish Security and Intelligence Service (danish CIA) actually knew him before the attacks for things they don't want to reveal yet.
