The plane is believed to have come down near the Ukraine-Russia border

A Malaysian passenger plane with 295 people on board has been shot down as it flew above eastern Ukraine, according to aviation sources.

The plane, which is believed to have been flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, was travelling at an altitude of 10km (6.2 miles) when it was shot down, the Russian news agency Inferfax reported.

It was brought down by a ground-to-air missile, an adviser to the Ukrainian interior ministry quoted by Inferfax said.

A spokesman for Malaysian Airlines confirmed "an incident" involving one of its flights and is expected to release a statement shortly.

The aircraft involved is believed to be a Boeing 777 with flight number MH17, which departed from Amsterdam at 12.14am local time.

Sky's Katie Stallard, in Moscow, said media reports suggest the plane came down in an area where there has been recent heavy fighting amid continuing tensions between Russia and Ukraine."

Yeah some source said it was a russian missile which dropped it. Putin is going apeshit over everything that moves around Ukraine.
Man Malaysian Air just can't catch a break.
Jesus.

According to the dutch news, there were about 71 dutcb people onboard.

Rebels claim that the government shot the plane down, and the government claims that it was the rebels who did it.

It's awful news for them, people will stop flying with them because people in the world are asshats. Unsure
Lol, 2 unreliable people are claiming the other ones did it... Can't really believe in either.. I'd almost guess it was russia though.

This is so sad for Malaysia, they have the worst luck with their airplanes.
What I read on the Dutch news websites, is that the plane has been shot down by accident by the pro Russian seperatists.

Edit:

154 Dutch people were in the Malaysian Airlines plane that has been shot down.
I swear I will never fly with Malaysian Air.

It doesn't have anything to do with Malaysian Air.
That MH370 and this plane are from the same carrier, is a sick coincidence.
In fact, KLM and Malaysian Airlines have a contract, that KLM flies one part of the flight (Amsterdam-Kuala Lumpur and back), and Malaysian Air the other flight.
It could have been a KLM Flight too.
Oh wow BP, that link Unsure

It is indeed very sad to think that all those people died because of an incident like this. Sad

Surely a better idea would be to not go anywhere near an area currently involved in heavy conflict.

Very sad indeed.
Malaysians have been having a very bad luck recently, rest in peace.
It really makes me wonder why on earth are they cleared to fly through that airspace? It's obviously a war zone no matter what people say, take the long way round instead of risking hundreds of innocent lives.. 9 Brits on board apparently too, a multi-national airliner Sad Thoughts go out to friends and family of the lost ones. Exactly this, I heard that some investigators aren't allowed on the scene because it's too dangerous area... Now why would they let a passenger plane fly through there then??

Also, if it was to be an "accident", why would both Russia and rebels blame eachother?
Aaand they changed the counts of Dutch people to 173, all onboard.

Conversation regarding the OP.

No facts supporting those conversations tho. I would like to see some thought to be used when publishing things about this Biggrin
Many newspapers and media alltogether speculating without any facts.. annoying.
