RE: Problem Found On Insim!
My honda has a speed sensor on the transmission, but since the transmission is connected to the front wheels, I'd assume it runs by the front wheels. Isn't it that the same thing that runs the speedometer runs the odometer and tripmeter?

I joined a group on a trip to Germany last year, (BMW Z4M's, Z3M's (Coupé's), and in 1 car, there were 2 phones messuering the speed of the car. The phones said the same (about 240km/h), while the speedometer said 250 |

Sure. That's why You can drive 60km/h in 50 zone without speeding ticket (and cause the leeway of course).

RE: Problem Found On Insim!
GPS is way less accurate at speeds cars usually go compared to a classic speedometer. Even under best conditions it's accurate by 3 metres. So, if you want to see your speed once a second you have a calculated inaccuracy of 10km/h when traveling @ 50km/h. And thats under best conditions. And furthermore, the car manufacturers have to build their cars to meet certain regulations to sell them, and I'm quite sure, a "independent, reliable and accurate speed measurement unit" is a requirement. GPS is proven inaccurate and more important, the car manufacturer can't guarantee it's accurate, or working at all. Imagine a close thunderstorm and no car on the highway knows its speed, or even worse, they see different. So bottom line, that function is rather a toy than a tool.
Edit. Some words to a classic speedometer. It certainly has some inaccuracy too, but this value is within defined and guaranteed limits. And it's accuracy is both verifiable and adjustable. |
