New Post Icon Guidelines
New Post Icon Guidelines
As you may have seen, there are now more, better looking post icons. The post icons are used to give other users visual information about what is a thread and topic about; to express the emotion and content of the thread. It would be great if you started to use these icons as you post a new thread—without it your thread might seem naked! The icons were made by Pete. Ambulance: No precise guideline for this icon. Announcement: Thread contains an announcement for, e.g., forthcoming event. Bell: Thread contains something alarming, whether it be a sudden cancellation of an event, immediate attention requiring post and so on. Bolt: Thread contains something shocking, such as a death of someone and so on. Bomb: Thread contains something explosive, something that will most likely cause a public disagreement. Book: Thread contains a guide or tutorial. Bookmark: Thread contains important information. Brush: Thread contains skins, art and so on. Calendar: Thread contains, e.g., a calendar for an event as well as, not always, information for it. Camera*: Thread contains at least one photo, and the thread is most likely dedicated for photos. Car: Thread contains something that is related to cars, for example, car photos (can also be used the above Camera post icon.) Chat: Thread contains a discussion of something related to the topic. Checkered Flag: Thread contains something related to races. Clock: Thread contains a reminder, e.g., for an event. Code: Thread contains something related to coding. Cutlery: Thread contains something related to food. Download: Thread contains a download link to something. Exclamation Mark: Thread contains information, rules, and so on, which should be read without a doubt. Flag: Thread contains something to report, e.g., forum reports, reports for bugs. Game: Thread contains something related to games such as a game review. Gift: Thread contains, e.g., birthday wishes, season's greetings, or give aways. Globe: Thread contains, e.g., information about something global. Headphones: Thread contains something related to listening to music. Heart: Thread contains lovely things, e.g., love letters. Image*: Thread contains at least one image, and the thread is most likely dedicated for images. Info Mark: Thread contains information. Laptop: Thread contains something related to computers such as computer upgrading and so on. Lightbulb: Thread contains an idea on something; a suggestion to improve something, and so on. Minus: Thread contains disagreement with something; a suggestion to remove something, and so on. Music: Thread contains something that is related to music. Paper plane: Thread contains a short official statement on something; announcement for something that is not so important. People: Thread contains, e.g., a team list of a team. Person: Thread contains an announcement for an individual person; promotions/demotions and so on. Pin: Thread contains, e.g., information and therefore the thread is pinned/stickied to highlight it. Plane: Thread contains information such as a departure of an individual, closure of a team and so on. Plus: Thread contains agreement with something, a suggestion to, e.g., implement new features in-game and sign ups. Question Mark: Thread contains a question. Rocket: Thread contains something fun which makes a pleasant atmosphere; something relating to space shuttles, space and so on. Star: Thread contains something special. Steam: Thread contains something related to games which can be bought on Steam. Thumb Down: Thread contains disagreement with something. Thumb Up: Thread contains agreement with something. Trolley: Thread contains something that is related to shopping; something for sale and so on. Trophy: Thread contains, e.g., results of a race. Video: Thread contains at least one video, and the thread is most likely dedicated for videos. Warning: Thread contains, e.g., information, rules, and notices which are considered (very) important and should be read without a doubt. Wrench: Thread contains, e.g., a user in need of help and support for something such as tech. * Please know the difference between an image and a photo: an image is something generated, sometimes abstract representation of something (for example, edited pictures.) A photo is a picture taken with a camera; photography (photo = light) NOTE: These are just guidelines. Any of these icons can be used for different purposes; if the icon represents something well, it is okay to use it. E.g., a plane post icon can be used for anything related to aeroplanes. |

RE: New Post Icon Guidelines
We've gone around adding appropriate icons to various popular and important threads. If we've missed any, feel free to highlight them or if you made the OP, add one yourself by editing the thread.
