SPECS: Intel® Core™ i7-2600K 16 GB DDR3 1600MHz 1TB + 80GB SSD-disk 2x GeForce GTX 560 SLI Stealthfighter-design Blu-ray Intel Z68-chipset Copypasted Please tell me what you think about it, im not gonna build one myself just saying. RE: New computer.
My thoughts:
* Take away the Bluray-reader unless you have Bluray DVD's that you watch on your computer. * I'd say you go for a cheaper i5 proccesor unless you are rendering or doing other stuff that is procceesor-heavy. You could use the money you save there on a more expensive videocard. * If I where you I'd look for a newer graphicscard, 560 is getting old. Nvidia has launched their new 600'series and ATI has launced some cards aswell. Here are some graphs showing how some of the graphicards that are out on the market performs. First graph shows a test on some of the older graphiccards and the second one shows a test the newer ones. Green line is: Avarage FPS Red line is Lowest FPS |

(2012-09-02 14:53)Dowpie Wrote: SPECS: Fixed. Currently NVIDIA seems to have the edge with the 600 series when it comes to price/performance. 16 GB of ram is a lot, maxing out 8GB would be a challenge for most people. What do you do on the computer apart from playing games? You probably don't need the i7, and the money saved and go to a better GPU like Crille said. |

Kenwood, don't just think of what you need now, but what you might need in the future. 16GB of RAM seems much now, but I'm sure more and more games or programs will require more RAM, so why not if you have the money. Plus, it's nice to showoff. As is the i7.
What's your budget, Dowpy? |

RE: New computer.
I'd rather have a computer which I don't have to upgrade myself in 2 years, so I won't have to worry about buying parts later on.
Even though it's easy, you'll still need to get RAM compatible with your motherboard, which will probably be older by the time you'd be upgrading it. Also, he said he didn't want to build it himself. Guessing this includes installing parts later on. Depends on what Dowpy wants. If you have enough money, get the max you can get. |

In comparison, when my mom got her XPS ten years ago with 512mb of ram, we didn't need to upgrade the ram until 7 years after we bought it. Just saying. (and they still make DDR ram ;]) Also some manufacturers charge a lot for the extra ram when you can save so much money by putting it in yourself, but if Dowpy wants to spend another 80€ or so upgrading it with the manufacturer then it's his money, his choice. |

Unless your mom is a gamer playing the latest games, you can't compare her to Dowpy.

Hmm NetOnNet doesn't seem to have much of a selection, or am I doing something wrong? lol
Translated my way to this: http://www.netonnet.se/art/dator/gaming/...2791.5425/ It's the second best graphics card on the site. Best in your budget. |

Ye inet.se or komplett.se are the sites to buy from
Just wondering: Will BF3 be the most demanding game that you will play? Will you only run 1 monitor with 1920x1080? Will you be overclocking the processor or graphicscard? |

RE: New computer.
Worthy of a look on Komplett.se:
Gamer i10 (though the 1333MHz RAM is below average for today's standards) Gamer Premium BF3 Edition (same thing with the ram, and a slightly slower model i5, but TWO GTX 660 Ti's!) Gamer i25 Crazy Edition (with the i7, 16Gb RAM, and the 670...sweet deal) I personally prefer the i25 because it has the most RAM, the fastest RAM, the i7, and the GTX 670 (I prefer single card solutions instead of SLI/CrossFireX) and seems to be the best in the long run (great if you want to keep the thing for 10 years). I think it's the best deal. I'm not sure if most games support SLI/Xfire, anyway. The BF3 edition is best for pure gaming performance with two graphics cards, and the i10 is the cheapest one, but still very capable. On Inet: http://www.inet.se/produkt/1517099/tauru...0-i5-3570k **Overclockable!** Looks like that's the best performing one in your budget, you can save 1000SEK by going with the 660 Ti in the model under it. From both sites, the Komplett Gamer i25 looks like the best deal. By the way, were you planning on overclocking? |

(2012-09-02 16:17)KaraK Wrote: Kenwood, don't just think of what you need now, but what you might need in the future. By that metric, he may as well spend 2 grand on a CPU, 3x €800 graphics cards, 64GB RAM a 512GB SSD and a couple of 3TB HDDs, because he *might* need it in future. What he really needs to be thinking about is what he's likely to need in the next 3-5 years. The current state of things: i5-2550/3550 is plenty for gaming, any more is overkill. The i7-2600k is ~1.2x faster. If it's around 1.2x the price, then go for it. 8GB RAM is plenty for most people, and probably will be for the foreseeable future, especially if you have a fast SSD system drive (for paging). 8GB has only really been common on higher end enthusiast PCs for the last year or so. Unless you're planning on doing heavy video editing/photoshop/CAD or VMs, you're going to have a hard time using up 8GB. Even if you do have problems in the next few years, DDR3 RAM will still be cheaply available if history is anything to go by - it took a few years for DDR3 to get as cheap as DDR2 and the DDR4 specification isn't even finished yet. I've only been close to hitting 8GB usage on mine once; that was with Firefox (a few hundred tabs), multiple large Photoshop files (2.5GB RAM), several email accounts, LFS, LFS Viewer, Steam and a virtual machine running all at the same time. From my calculations a while back, 80GB SSD is bare minimum for a usable 64bit Windows 7 install. I recommend at least a 120GB one or you're likely to be having disk space issues after about a year. Graphics I can't really comment on, other than the fact that SLI does not give you 2x the performance, but does use 2x the power. (2012-09-02 20:04)Kenwood Wrote: Gamer i10 (though the 1333MHz RAM is below average for today's standards) No stock CPU (except possibly some of the faster i7s, I'm not certain) needs more than 1333MHz RAM. Faster stuff is usually cheap and easy to come by, but there's no point in getting it unless you're going to overclock. |

Sure 1333 is plenty fast, I'm just going by what kind of ram most $800 computers use nowadays. I believe that spending about $2000USD (or whatever the amount in your currency is) on a computer usually covers the cost of enough hardware that will still be relevant in 5 or so more years. (As long as you choose the right parts) |
