RE: Language Filter
Dafuq is not even close to a swearword... Fuq is (almost) never used and dafuq is mostly used in weird situations. I rarely see it being directed at someone, and I don't see a point in adding that to the swear filter.
Nor do I like the idea of adding other words to the filter, unless they are really offensive. Which is what the filter is for. To filter the worst and most used swear words. |

'fuu' word is somewhat in the greyzone, if you ask me. This is because it can be looked upon in two ways. One as an direct insult to an invidual as they might look on it as 'fu*k you' or 'fu*k off, don't speak to me', and the other for just showing overall aggression over an situation that has failed miserable. Also, i've seen TC members using this term many times. Maybe not the best to do since they are the ones that should show an good example to the rest. But then again, it's all up to each invidual of how they look upon the word itself, and in that specific situation. But i do agree it should be added, yes. |

Well since almost everyone on here has at least a slightly different oppinion what a swearword is and what isn't, i kinda doubt that it works well. And quite a lot of new "degenerated" swear words propably only exist to dodge swear filters or similar. A form of swearing newspeak i would say. |

I tbh. don't really see the need of the swearfilter. It's not like we're in the 60's or something where everything has to be all perfect and polite..
Also, if I said "f uck you" to someone, what would happen? It's not like there would be someone there to be in complete shock and say 'Oi, calm down and watch your language, young lad!' You get my point? |

TC is meant to be a friendly place hence there is no need for a language like that. Furthermore, its been a fundamental rule on TC servers and as guest you're expected to follow these. If you have problems articulating yourself without swearing, I suggest you get a dictionary and change your social contacts. |

You can swear in !pm, !l (I think), !ch. Just not in the main chat - that's not a lot to ask. Same principle as real life, you don't go around shops in public swearing (and if you do, you probably shouldn't), but in private conservations or in your own home then it's their choice. |

In all seriousness it's chucks server and as he does not like swearing and restricts it on his server thats fine, but telling others to change their social contacts for having a different oppinion is a bit over the top.
I am just merely stating my oppinion on this topic and, as i always say, it is up to you what to make of it. |

Well, the only reason why this funny is because its *not* the normal case. Imagine porn would become absolutely uninteresting if everyone was already walking around naked in the streets and have shameless sex there too |

RE: Language Filter
That is spot on, but not a point in your favour . Most servers that allow swearing usually see less of it, since it is indeed nothing special anymore.
You realize that swearing is only fun when people get offended, at least i like it that way. Once nobody cares people tend to swear a lot less. |

RE: Language Filter
I recently spent a week playing on LsC to see how it actually compares. One thing I noticed is that the admins there are a lot more tolerant towards swearing and abusive behaviour. The whole tone of the server at peak points was quite low and It wasn't really an enjoyable place to be.

RE: Language Filter
The tone also has a lot to do with the users present at that time. You could create quite an unfriendly atmosphere by using sarcasm, irony or/and by being cynical. Swearing does not necessarily mean it is an unfriendly place, but it can contribute to it.
Far back we had a event on the glow server with heavy swearing and it was quite an enjoyable evening. Partially down to just being able to do it. |

Abbreviations like WTF and FFS don't necessarily contain swearing (people can easily substitute "freak" for example) so aren't necessarily a problem on their own. However, the context matters and they're often used in an abusive manner. Regarding swearing in general, it's not about what you do or do not have a problem with, it's about what society in general thinks about it, especially when it comes to children. We try to be a family friendly server and a generally pleasant place to hang out. Many people feel that swearing prevents that environment. |
