Emergency Vehicles (MEDS AND RES) speeding fines
I was on a call as a MED and there was someone who couldn't move in the middle of the road, to get to him i passed a cop using the speed trap and as I was in a hurry to get there, i got fined. I was just wondering why MED and RES are not exempt from speeding fines when on a call as it is important to get to the destination quickly

RE: Emergency Vehicles (MEDS AND RES) speeding fines
They are not exempt because we currently have no system to properly keep track of whether MED/RES are in a call or not. Further, we have no reliable way of verifying the importance of the call (people regularly select "With Danger" when they're stuck in the sand hundreds of metres from the track). Many people speed as MED/RES while not on a call (even though they shouldn't), so fully exempting them from fines is not an option.
Also, calling them "Emergency" vehicles is a bit of a stretch in most cases. As lives are in no way in danger, the only time speed is of particular importance (other than someone getting mildly bored from having to wait an extra 20s or so) is if the car is stuck somewhere likely to cause crashes ie the Autobahn or a fast blind corner. tl;dr Might happen in future in limited situations, provided we can somewhat reliably detect when they should legitimately be speeding (complicated) |
