I'm kinda surprised that there is no thread about the second most played game on Steam.

For those who doesn't know, Counter Strike is a classic FPS where you must accomplish the objectives with your team, as a terrorists or counter-terrorists, throught different game modes :

• Deatchmatch : Kill the players to get the highest score with the weapon you want.
• Demolition : A round based mode where you get weapons from killing the others.
• Arms race : Kinda a deathmatch mode but you will get a new weapon after each kill. The first who killed with every weapons wins.
• And my favorite, Classic Casual / Competitive* : There is 2 missions defuse & hostage.
  
  
  • Defuse : Terrorists must plant a bomb on a site & counter-terrorists must prevent the bomb exploding.
  • Hostage : The CT must rescue the hostages by briging them to the extraction point and terrorists must prevent them to do it.
    
  
  At the start of each round, you can purchase weapons with the money you've earned from different ways (by killing, assisting, completing objectives...).
  
  * Competitive mode is a 5 vs 5 ranked game, the casual classic can go up more but it's not ranked.
  

After each game, you can win items (boxes, personalized weapons) but it won't give you any advantage like bonus damage or less recoil, it's purely cosmetic. You can also sell the items on the market, prices can go up to 400 USD depending the items.

From my side, I never played any counter strike game before, I tested it for a few hours (after being yelled during a week to buy it) and I enjoyed it for the price, it's really strategic. I already won some items & a weapon that cost 50€ (sold 45€ on the market ).

I noticed that there are a lot of competition. (ESL...)

I got this game but its pretty boring 1.6 was more fun

I play it on and off, gets quite boring after awhile, i recommend buying it if you like shooter games i guess.

I still prefer CSS. Been playing since 1.5, and I find GO to simply miss something like the classic games had.

Well I actually do play it quite a lot. Yea its not as fun as 1.6 was but its still CS. Started playing it competitively year ago. The skins are destroying the cs community one day tho

You need breakout pass if you want breakout cases / missions.

You can drop ESL 2014 boxes and custom weapon skins without the pass thought, but you won't have missions / cases from the operation.

Its around 7 drops/week/player, breakout pass doesnt change it.

ESL Boxes doesnt drop anymore, but normal dropskins / cases (Huntsman, Winter offensive, eSports Winter/summer, etc.)

Its 4(maybe 5) drops per week you can have. Then if you buy breakout pass, you can have breakout missions and get mission rewards(skins). Been playing css since 2005 and started playing CSGO actively(competitive) about several months ago. Current wins are 60 and rank is DMG. Got in to MG2 after 10 wins and about 60-70 hours of playing (i did more surfing than anything), few after that MGE and about 20 and DMG . I find myself quite good player when looking at my hours and wins

Not worth, just collect keys and buy knife straight like i did.

Bought 84 esl capsules with 0,19€ each when ESL tournaments was.
After 2 weeks sold all capsules for keys and bought knife.
Basicaly got 55€ knife with 10€.

Yeah thats what i'm doing, started with few euros and got in to 11, opened case and now only 10.. Its still almost 10x more than what i started with
