Orion Launch
Any one keeping up to date with Orion? Nasa having been trying to launch since this morning, had many issues so far haha. Scheduled to relaunch in an hour or so (delayed for the 4th time) such a coincidence that I'm watching it live in Physics!
Orion is a new age rocket that they are expecting to use to send astronauts to Mars very soon! Todays launch is a test i believe. Would post a link to the livestream but I'm on my phone. A little difficult. https://twitter.com/LuckyLukeT1/status/5...3800436736 |

Interesting, I think I'll sit here sharp-eyed until it lifts off.
On the other hand, found something nice on that page. Spoiler (Click to View) |

RE: Orion Launch
Leave it any later and the air temperature will be too warm to launch safely
So we now know where TC Elmo is! Works for Nasa! Fantastic! https://twitter.com/NASA/status/540508004232495104 |

RE: Orion Launch
Just watched the launch livestream crashed within the bloody countdown!!! Watched most of it though. Now to wait another 10-20 years before they do something productive with the data they just found

RE: Orion Launch
It's capable to go to Mars unmanned however it wasn't set up for it. This mission is a test of some sort i believe. Not sure exactly.

From what I read it is supposed to circle around the earth twice, and the main purpose of the flight was to test the heat shield on re-entry. |

RE: Orion Launch
Indeed.
Yeah, although I thought the Mars thing was a one way trip? The reason why I say that related to the heat shield testing is because it said "testing upon re-entry BACK to EARTH" and I remember that the Mars missions will be a one way trip? Obviously Mars has an atmosphere and air resistance like earth so heat shielding is needed. It just confused me a little. I find it fascinating how a 9 year old (I believe she's 9) is training to go. Also a mid-20 year old training at my local uni in Sheffield. |

Do you have a source on the 9 year old? Kind of hard to believe to be honest.

13* Year old sorry, I believe I read somewhere that she started training at 9 or made the decision.
