I waited a day before making this thread. I saw the film at 0:01 last night (opening show). I thought it was brilliant.

The way they killed Han, was not the way to end everyone's favorite character. You knew something bad was going to happen from that first scene. But Han needed to go down in the Falcon not on some walkway.

Not to sound like a sexist by having a female lead character was not something I ever expected from this series. I guess Disney owns them now and I should have seen it coming lol

The whole Nazi thing yeah. Screw you Disney.

Really confused with the whole Finn lightsaber thing. I thought to even use a lightsaber you had to be able to use the force and have a high enough midichlorian count. If that's the case is he also secretly a lost Jedi descendant? If not why did Disney just kill something that the Lucas series held true throughout.

BB-8 really makes R2-D2 look ancient. Poor guy.

Is Rey related to Anakin? Luke's daughter maybe?

Rey being Luke's daughter is an interesting one.

As for killing Han, they had to kill someone and I think the way they did it was actually one of the best ways it could've happened. It was inevitable as soon as he shouted at him on the walkway. Killing Han just makes us hate Renn more.

If they didn't kill off someone then the film would've seemed too cliche and too safe. Renn had to do something shocking for the audience to know he's a serious villain.

Rey's performance was brilliant. I was sceptical as to whether a female lead in Star Wars would work but it really did. Great choice.

BB-8 is fantastic too. I thought the cutesy droid thing would annoy me but it didn't. The versatility of the beeping and the larger freedom of movement meant it could convey a lot more emotion than R2-D2.

Bloody amazing movie! I like how they went with a simpler approach instead of just going for overly-produced tripe. Seeing it again this weekend as well, might be able to work out some unanswered questions.

I agree with Blade though. Han shouldn't have been killed off like that. Being a lot of people's favourite character, he should have had a more respectable death and been able to go out with dignity. Fair enough die to his son, but maybe in a space battle and not on "some walkway".

I was also thinking Rey might be Luke's daughter, seeing as she has the force and Luke might also be linked to the scene with Rey as a little girl. I'm not too sure about this - which is why I'm seeing it again (and its too good to not) - but it would be pretty cool if this was true. I think it will be really weird having a female lead Jedi character, mainly because I'm not used to it but I'm sure us sexists () will get over it.

Finn and the lightsaber also made no sense to me. Being a stormtrooper he shouldn't have been able to use it. Unless they gave him more of a backstory, which they should have to make this more legit.

The part where the "First Order" soldiers are kids ripped away at a young age rather than clones could mean Finn is a descendant of a Jedi somehow. Maybe Mace Windu haha.

I'm seeing it specifically to pay more attention to the flashback scene for Rey, where you see the Tatooine esq scene on Jakku.

I really liked the movie. was like a constant hommage to the old trilogy but im not sure if id like the movie if i wasnt that much of a fan of the franchise..

Id like to remind you on General Grivious, who is more robot then anything else, he still uses them.
BUT i do agree with you somehow, i dont think its a must have to be familiar with the force etc to be able to operate a Lightsaber --> Finn could have gotten some classes in fighting with spears or sticks or so, which would mean he would know how to fight with a saber, but he wouldnt be able to fend off shots etc which he doesnt do i think, same goes for General Grievious if you ask me....
Im Not sure, i think rey is related to the skywalkers, probably luke because of that vision she got from the saber.
Also i want to say that i dont think the death of han is a bad scene as how it is made, because i think cinematic it is very well made. if youre going to rewatch it take a better look at the colors in Renns face. first red and blue, representing both sides of the force and his "dispute" with himself, after he kills han it is only red. Very well made if you ask me.

@Greyzone Wow I didn't actually realise that lighting until watching that scene back, very well done indeed! And after seeing Harrison Ford on The Jonathan Ross Show, he's said himself that he kind of asked to have Han killed by Renn due to him wanting to settle down rather than keep on filming for Star Wars. He might make some cameo appearances, but its understandable why he wanted him to be killed.

It was also cool to see other actors like Warwick Davis (who's now made an appearance in most of the Star Wars films) make a cameo appearance. Even Daniel Craig got his fair share playing the Stormtrooper who let Rey out of her prison shackles. He asked to be in it due to him filming Spectre at the same time - they gave him some pretty hard lines to learn, copying Rey and all.

Grevious was created by Dooku with blood/organs from a Jedi. (This comes from a book I believe, but this book supports the movie(Canon) series rather than being fan fiction etc.) So his midichlorian count would be higher.

The only other use of a saber by a non "force sensitive" would be Han and the cutting creature to place Luke inside for warmth, but he did not fight with the weapon. But the fact of Han being at least somewhat in tune with the force because of his luck has always been questioned.

Only time will tell I guess. It would be nice if Lucas or Abrams would shed light on this.


Don't get me wrong I do like the idea of Ren killing Han. I just thought the execution was cliche and as a result you saw it coming from the moment Han yelled Ben's name. Kind of like when someone walks down a dimly lit hallway in a scary movie, they aren't coming back alive lol. Or like when Han said this place has been here for a thousand years. You knew it wouldn't be standing after the next 15 minutes lol.

Also I cannot believe Daisy Ridley is my age lol.
