Controlling an AWD is a whole different world from RWD, and I've driven RWD's only since I was 12, so this is a bit new.. I'm still practicing!

Lesson learnt, never borrow your car to a friend. 20Kph sideways into a snowpile that had a ditch pole inside it., thank god its fairly easy to straighten out.

Generally you use less lock to hold a slide than a rwd, if the fronts grip up it straightens up (on tarmac anyway, snow might be easier). Being a non turbo your car will have an open front, so no real worry about the fronts sticking too much, my car has viscous center and rear and unless the front diff is that bad (open), the rear takes a while to take the slack in a slide.

One other thing is if the front does ever stick in a slide, you will go wherever the fronts are pointing if you apply power (think lsd's etc. though it has happened in my car). I knew about this problem but never really experienced it until last year when I was at the track. I was mid corner (doing 160km/h ish) and had to drive through a patch of oil from some bloody alfa driver, I caught the slide initially but I put the power on to straighten it up, what I didn't do was straighten the steering so I did 2 full spins the opposite direction through the sand trap because the front(s) had more grip than the rear. It was on the track so no real issue with restricted space.

The powder from the extinguisher pretty much ruins everything it touches, so there's a lot of work to get the car back on the road.

DON'T MAKE IT WET, NATHAN!

It will corrode metal regardless, but if it comes into contact with water, it'll speed up the process. I'm speaking from bitter experience here. Get that shit vacuumed out and when you're done with that, cover as much as you can and use pressurized air to get the rest out.
