Pastor outraged about same sex marriage
Geesh. the main reason why I am not extremely religious.
http://www.longislandpress.com/2012/05/2...als-video/ The bible is a book which started being written over 2000 years ago. According to a former religion teacher of mine, there is nothing in there that is against same sex marriage. |

RE: Pastor outraged about same sex marriage
- 'Baby killer'
1. Our population is booming ridiculously, and our economy can't support our growth. Reducing the birth rate in my opinion is a good thing. 2. Homosexuality is not some disease that is passed down through families, otherwise they would never have been born in the first place. They are not killing off babies, and if you started locking them all up Hitler style they won't suddenly stop existing after a few years and you won't be left with a 'master race'. 3. Homosexual couples are more likely to adopt orphans that have been left with no home or family than a straight couple who have children already. Also it's my opinion that religion should never be practiced in law. Being open minded is what made our world so colorful and that's how it should be kept. |

RE: Pastor outraged about same sex marriage
Even if you do believe that it is against the bible, who are you to say that these people aren't allowed to be homosexual, just because you THINK it's wrong. Religion is for yourself, don't force it to others.

Religion: God made us all in his image.
Me: Is that so, well, in that case, God made ME an ATHEIST, who are YOU to question the acts of GOD? |

RE: Pastor outraged about same sex marriage
Well, the church is no longer responsible for the matter of marriage (at least in certain countries), so their opinion is utterly irrelevant. Its now matter of the state or country and if they think they can marry gay couples, or monkeys with apples, they can do it.

I'm not religious but I'm still against it. When they adopt kids, they will get bullied in school.
I remember watching a documentary about something similar where they asked the boys they adopted if they would want to be gay. They said they aren't forced to be gay they have an option but they want to be gay. |

And i also have nothing against homosexuals, nothing at all. Let them live their own life, pastor or not. If he feels something for the same sex, well okay, whats wrong with that. |

Ban all the cars then. It's my opinion each to their own.
This is about gay marriage not being gay in its self. |

Not only can marriage be symbolic for love, it can also bring financial advantages, and it's pure discrimination to keep them from such advantages. |

RE: Pastor outraged about same sex marriage
The way I see religion is as follows:
Religion is much like a scientific theory. It's an attempt to explain how things work. Often these theories stand for thousands of years, sometimes they are proven wrong, sometimes they are only partially proven wrong. We know the Big Bang happened, but that does not prove any religion to be completely wrong, only part of it. All the morals (love thy neighbour, respect others e.t.c.) are still valid. There may even be a God, who knows. Personally I can see there being a point of creation (since something cannot come from nothing according to the current set of theories we work with, eventually scientists will get to a point where that something came into being, and who knows, it may have been created by a God) Just because theories have been proven wrong, doesn't mean to say that it is considered stupid claptrap, in fact many theories we know are wrong are still remembered with pride to this day, simply because they were great discoveries. So, the Bible stated that homosexuals are devils and demons e.t.c., but we know these days that this isn't really true. People still against homosexuals are like scientists still supporting the Plum Pudding model of the atom. However, marriage is a ceremony carried out as part of the Christian theory. You marry with the rules set out in the book, however outdated they are. If you want to get married but don't meet what is said by the Bible, get a civil partnership. Or follow your own version of Christianity which allows it. God is different things to different people. |

I'd disagree with calling it scientific though.
Something off-topic, you say something cannot come from nothing. But who says there ever was a creation, maybe these particles and what not have always existed, who knows? |

RE: Pastor outraged about same sex marriage
I passionately despise everything Charles Worley had to say in that video, it's as if somebody gave anal grapes the ability to speak.
My reaction to people speaking against homosexuality and abortion is normally to approach them in a calm, civilized, and respectful way, pointing out some holes in their reasoning and raising some valid points. I feel this approach can be good for getting people to analyse their beliefs from a neutral, external perspective, rather than simply holding onto them tighter and remaining as ignorant as possible. However, one - I have no contact with Charles Worley, and two - I suspect my approach would be as futile as trying to destroy a tank by throwing super noodles at at. My next reaction would be to mock Charles Worley and exaggerate the stupidity of what he's saying, but then I realize - that would be impossible. |

According to a former religion teacher of mine, there is nothing in there that is against same sex marriage. The bible should not really be seen as a book, rather a collection of books, by different authors. I'm not sure about bible references to gay marriage in specific, but there's certainly scripture against homosexuality: Leviticus 20:13 - "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 - "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God." These aren't the only verses, just examples. To be honest the bible is a pretty crappy moral guide as a whole. It's sexist, homosexuals "shall be" (and were, in the name of religion) put to death, not to mention the verses regarding slavery. It's enough to make anyone with a sense of morality cringe. |

maybe I misinterpreted what my teacher said, possibly he said that there was nothing wrong about gay people. It's been a while though, so I don't remember it exactly.
