RE: [Question] Upgrading from XP to Windows 7
Worked pretty flawless for me, most drivers were already included in win7 64bit.
You just need the usual stuff like graphic drivers, directx etc. |

RE: [Question] Upgrading from XP to Windows 7
By the looks of your system specs your computer sounds fairly recent and should be good to go out of the box after an update (apart from graphics and plugin software)
Drivers are only really a concern if your PC has fairly old hardware that might not be supported. |

I think this will be enough, but You can check it with Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.

RE: [Question] Upgrading from XP to Windows 7
Just a little question from me as well as I was also thinking of upgrading to windows 7 from XP, last time I tried this about 6-7months ago I had real problems trying to get my sound to work. I tried for 2days and about 50 sound drivers to get my sound to work but no success so I switched back to XP but since then I've bought new parts for my p.c (motherboard, processor, not using my soundcard anymore) and was thinking of giving windows 7 another go.
I just did the Windows 7 Advisor and it's giving me weird problems which I wasn't excepting problems shown: Realtek High Definition Audio Unknown We don't have compatibility information about this device. Call of duty 2 Paid update available We don't have compatibility information about this version of the program. Steam Update available We don't have compatibility information about this version of the program. Weird thing is, I know people who play the game Call of duty 2 with windows 7 without any problems. So I'm not too sure if I should believe the results its given me or not, My system specs are below: CPU: Intel Core i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10GHz GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT Memory: Corsair Memory XMS3 Classic 4GB DDR3 Motherboard: Asus P8P67-M PRO Rev3 Intel P67 Express Socket 1155 Motherboard I'm just looking for a bit of help or info |

RE: [Question] Upgrading from XP to Windows 7
Steam will definitly work and i am quite sure cod will too, but i also had some problems with my sound card while switching to w7. Had a no name product, which was a bit older and it wouldn't work with w7.
Got a new cheap one which would. Try to see what exact sound card you have and google if will work or if there is a fix for it, otherwise i would get a new soundcard. |

RE: [Question] Upgrading from XP to Windows 7
I don't have a soundcard, when I updated my p.c there wasn't a slot for my soundcard so I'm currently running on-board which isn't too bad.

RE: [Question] Upgrading from XP to Windows 7
With upgrading to windows 7 from XP, I had to upgrade the sound drivers but that wasnt too hard after searching the web. All it should take is knowing what to search for. At least its always worked that way for me. Simple troubleshooting really.

RE: [Question] Upgrading from XP to Windows 7
well I tried all this before, when I tried w7 about 6-7months ago it didn't pick up my sound ( had a soundcard at this point) and I searched for the sound driver disk and tried it but when it was trying to install I was getting an error about it can't find my soundcard. So I took my soundcard out and reinstalled windows 7 and still it didn't pick up my onboard sound which said it was supported for windows 7, I tried about 50 drivers over 2days and nothing worked. Just wanna make sure I don't get this problem if I try it again

Okay seems you are not the only one.
http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.p...&t=2155344 If all those tips are not working which is very likely, then you should return the motherboard to asus explaining them the problem. |

Either design, component choice (via), drivers, firmware, manufacturing, the list goes on. First thing to do: Update your BIOS. Doesn't usually completely fix the problem, but helps most of the time. |

RE: [Question] Upgrading from XP to Windows 7
Just gonna put this in there, windows 7 does have sound card issues, a quick google search fixed it for me when I went from vista to 7.
@Bullet, I know right, I love how fast it was even with a computer with a 500gb hard drive thats almost full didn't take long to reformat and do a fresh install. |
