RE: Jules Bianchi crash F1
Take a look at this...
Shocking driving and, if I can find the English commentary, the drivers get slated by the commentators for their speed. Far too fast under double yellows into an accident, it's only luck that the marshal isn't clipped by a car getting shunted into him. Sounds familiar to Bianchi's accident... My heart goes out to Bianchi's family and I hope he makes a full recovery much like Massa did after his incident in 2009, however he was driving far too fast for the conditions as per the WTCC drivers above. Under double yellows in the pouring rain, he went far too fast into that corner, endangering not just himself but the marshals recovering Sutil's stricken car. If the track conditions allowed Sutil to aquaplane off there during the race, then the chances are that the track will still be wet enough to send you off in the exact same way if you keep pushing round there - and that's exactly what happened. He pretty much followed Sutil's line off the track, albeit a few minutes later, and now with a JCB in the way. Bianchi's speed as recorded by the F1 Tracker - roughly 210kmh (130mph). He's going fast enough to lift a sodding big crane into the air and move it sideways a few feet. Look to the right of the JCB at the point of impact - notice the marshal? I have massive respect for Formula One drivers and the talent they have, but driving like that is inexcusable. Endangering track marshals is just plain ridiculous. However, I hope his surgery is successful, and again I hope he has a speedy recovery. (2014-10-06 20:48)LuckyLuke Wrote: could the car be even at part fault for lack of safety (doubt it but meh)? F1 cars are designed primarily for crashes such as head-ons where the nose cone can crumple/disintegrate, leaving the drivers cell intact. I'd say for an open cockpit car, the fact that he left the track alive stands testament to how safe these cars are, especially as they're designed for a head-on crash, not for a literal head-on-digger crash. They can't just leave Sutil's car there though, they've got to get it off somehow. The drivers are professionals and would be expected to slow down when there's an imminent danger, no? That's what double yellows are for. It's been fine at every other race in the season, however unfortunately Bianchi pushed a bit too far to make up time and bam... |
