I honestly don't think he's been working on the tyre physics at all during all the test patches in recent years. It sure does seem promising that he's got no plans for any new test patches and has started on the tyre physics, not planning to stop this time.
Why doesn't he just outsource this tyre physics project to somebody who specialises in such things? It could work out better for the game both from a financial and reputational point of view in the long run...
Seems that we're not to far away of them , as him is doing "something better" than actual ones, not what should be.

Scawen;1912402 Wrote:Thanks, everyone.

My thoughts are to get the tyre physics done without delays, without looking for perfection, just to get something out there that feels good and has a physical basis. The current public version tyre physics system uses some made-up force curves that are somewhat like real ones, and tuned to give reasonable output values, but they are not produced from an actual physical theory. The lateral and longitudinal forces are combined in a way that also is not based on physics, and was simply constructed to give a reasonable feeling.

In the new tyre physics, the forces are produced from code that follows physical laws, instead of looking up the forces from a curve. Lateral and longitudinal forces are output naturally, rather than being 'combined' in an arbitrary way.

There are assumptions involved, but they are 'known' assumptions that are there for a reason and can be improved upon in the future.

Anyway, I hope to continue with the work pace I have been doing in recent times, and don't see why this can't be the case.
If anyone's looking to go rev-banging on 0.6Q, an update for the Rev Bouncer has been released here.

Plenty bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaps.

Little bit of inspiration also.

Middle finger in the video.. That's right, *Removed* you engine xD
"This is only a minor update as I have mainly been working on the tyre physics."

working on the tyre physics

working on the tyre physics

Lol LFS is already dead
move to the iracing master race

Eric has been working on tracks.

Sorry but there's not much more to say at this point.

Anyway, here is a new compatible test patch with some small improvements. Most notably the car shadows are no longer cast towards the light. See the attached screenshot in the Test Patch 0.6Q3 thread.

Where's VWS again? loll

Devs giving up apparantly.

It started ?? Tongue

Anyway it can be risky to read it out of context..
Scawen Wrote:Pereulok has become a big problem in recent times. The trouble is when it got to the point where more people are online on the cracked master server than on the real one. Then LFS suffers and its reputation suffers. It really starts to look like trouble when our earnings are only just paying the bills and the thought of closing down LFS development becomes an actual possibility.

We aren't ready to stop development on Live for Speed and we are working enthusiastically on good new things. It would be a great pity if we were forced to stop development for no reason other than piracy.

Pereulok is currently unavailable and I believe that repeat83 understands that we need to earn a living from this job, or LFS will die. He has considerable technical abilities and I hope he will find a way to put them to good use.

I hope that with Pereulok offline more people will join the official master server. Please go out there and race. I will close this thread as there is nothing more to be said here.

he goes on to state :
Scawen Wrote:I do want to say one thing, after my previous posts which sounded quite negative. Because in fact I feel positive about Live for Speed!

I do love this job and it is only because of the support of the Live for Speed racers that we have been able to go on so long. It has been developed for a much longer period than most games! We are very lucky to be able to work from home and be able to choose our time of work each day. It's really great to be self employed, being creative and making something that people enjoy. I want this to go on and to get done the things that we have planned, even if it takes a long time!

I don't mind at all that our earnings have decreased a lot from what they used to be, some time after S2 was released. That is only to be expected, without expanding the business. But I absolutely don't think life is all about earning as much money as possible.

For many years I've just accepted that there will always be cracks and it would be a futile war putting too much time into preventing them. The only thing that got me a bit disturbed in recent days was learning that the crack community was so much bigger than our legal one, it was actually pulling legal players away from our servers. LFS isn't much good if there aren't people online and that situation seems like a downward spiral.

So, thank you for your support and kind words. I do think this thread should be closed now. It's the holiday season now and I hope that people will go online, in the legal version and get a bit more racing going on there. There is fun to be had and it's all free if you already have a license!

You should give some context to it though. He said that IF their earnings reach such a low point that it doesn't pay the bills, then it is a possibility, but in the same post he says they are not ready to stop development and are excited developing new things, but if this cracked community bullshit continues then LFS will go to shit alltogether

*EDIT: You nugget Nathan! You got it before me ;D
When he brought up the fact that he might stop developping LFS says a lot anyways,

as for the new amazing content, be prepared to wait 10 more years as with the Rockingham / Sirocco! Smile
I wouldnt be surprised if the recent discussion only encouraged him to get moving with new content. Expect it sooner than you think. He knows it'll bring more players online which is what he wants.

True. He is aware that ppl is leaving the game cause the lack of content/progress.

True that maybe the small change that we see with the bugs of shadows costs them lot of hours, but this isn't what players see.
Letting demo users even use LFS' official forums was certainly one of Scawen's mistakes.
